Agriculture Interns: In 2006 we established the Nantucket Farmers and Artisans Market, which is designed to improve access to local food, support the traditional industry of agriculture, help to sustain cottage industry, educate our youth through volunteer opportunities, and bring islanders and visitors to the downtown.  The Market has been a positive for the local economy and for island farmers and artisans. It also provides a fun and friendly place for the island to gather on Saturday mornings.

In 2011 we are offering 3-5 interns the special opportunity of working on-site with a number of different growers who produce for the Market. There is a possibility for college credit where applicable. Training includes harvesting and transporting products to restaurants, private customers and the Market, as well as learning how to successfully set up a business, and run a booth at an outdoor venue. We believe this would be excellent on-the-job experience for those interested in starting a career in agriculture: be it as a grower, businessperson, or community organizer.
