Farm to School – Thank you to the Nantucket Community!

This year for National Farm to School Month we say goodbye to our old garden space as we welcome our new garden location!

Beginning in the Spring of 2015 Sustainable Nantucket has been working with the Nantucket Public Schools and SMART Architects and Engineers to find they best location for the Farm to School Garden as they began to redesign the NPS campus to meet the needs of our growing population. Finding the perfect space took many hours over several months and we are beyond grateful to have found a space along side the baseball fields at the Nantucket Elementary School.

Finding a location was the first step in the transition to a new space. During the week of October 12th we began to rebuild our Joyce N. Furman Youth Garden in its fablous new location. This stage of the move would not have been possible without the help of  Tom Hanlon Landscaping and his dedicated crew of employees  were able to relocate the infrastructure of the garden.  Julie Jordin of the Garden Design Company has designed a wonderful space that we will bringing to life over the coming months.

This move could not have been possible without our wonderful community stepping in to lend a hand. As we move forward with the rebuild of the garden we continue to search for volunteers to help us build raised beds and replant our garden. If you are interested in helping in the future please contact Kathleen at
