Development Coordinator Position

Sustainable Nantucket  is seeking a Development Coordinator responsible for coordinating each element in our fundraising program, including: annual appeal, program fundraising campaigns, our Nantucket Grown magazine, special events such as the NantucketGrown Food Festival, and donor cultivation and stewardship.

This position offers ample opportunity for ambitious candidates seeking to hone their project management skill set while working to build a healthy local food system that can serve as a national model. Former Sustainable Nantucket development coordinators have gone on to development and executive director positions with prominent regional and national organizations.

Seeking a highly organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, energetic, and creative professional — a team-player with at least 3 years of fundraising and event-planning & PR experience; facility in use of Microsoft Office; strong writing skills, excellent people skills, experience in juggling multiple time-sensitive priorities, and coordinating volunteer-based projects and/or events.

Full-time; year-round; 35 hours per week
Starting salary: Between $35k and $39k – depending on experience. Position also includes health and retirement benefits.

Agriculture Apprenticeship – Summer Seasonal Position

This is a part time, paid position with an emphasis on farming work at the Sustainable Nantucket Community Farm Institute, located at the Walter F. Ballinger Educational Community Farm. Another part of the apprenticeship involves helping with our downtown Farmers & Artisans Market. June 1 through October 28 @ $13.00/hour for 15 hours/week at the Farm, plus 10 hours/week at the Market, for a total of 25 hours/week, with the possibility of more hours as desired/arranged, working in individual farmer’s plots.

Farm Duties: Assists site manager and farm coordinator in running and working at the Community Farm at 168 Hummock Pond Road. Responsible for maintaining pollinator garden and helping to develop a Food Forest and Beeyard. Must be able to handle farm tools, such as weed whacker, lawn mower, and hand-held tools.  Sustainable Nantucket will pay for 15 hours/week, (with the possibility of more),  and will help you connect with individual farmers at their Community Farm plots for any additional hours/week that you might want. Great learning opportunity, 5 hours per week of guided experience, monthly workshops, and contact with established farmer and site manager.

Farmers Market Duties: Assists the Market Manager in running the Farmers & Artisans Market downtown, 19 Saturdays, 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., plus one Saturday on July 7 only 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and up to 3 hours of office work per week tallying food stamp sales, conducting outreach to low income communities, and posting on social media. Responsibilities include Market set-up and breakdown, staffing Sustainable Nantucket information table, promoting food justice, running food stamp program, greeting visitors, answering questions, counting visitors, & selling non-profit merchandise.


  • Must be available June 1st – October 28
  • Interest in learning about agriculture and about the local food system.
  • Desire to learn or improve agricultural skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather performing repetitive, physical tasks, such as digging, carrying heavy items, handling small farm tools.
  • Driver’s License.
  • Must be an early-riser on Saturdays.
  • Desire to learn or improve food justice and outreach skills.
  • Housing already secured on Nantucket Island preferred.
