Farm to School Summer Camp Sneak Peek

June 29th, 2016

The Farm to School Summer Camp is quickly approaching! The camp will inspire the next generation of healthy eaterIMG_7368(1)s and environmental ambassadors through an exciting and engaging exploration of our local food system. Campers will learn about soil, seeds, and nutrition through fun, hands-on activities that include planting seeds, harvesting crops, cooking, crafting and learning about our island farms. Each week of camp will focus on an exciting topic in the garden! The first week’s topic is seeds: what they are, how they grow and how they travel. Each day will begin with garden gigs (chores) such as watering, weeding, harvesting and checking for pests. Garden gigs will be followed by a short interactive lesson on the day’s topic, for example what is an heirloom seed? After the lesson we’ll spend the rest of the morning doing an activity in the garden. We have tons of fun activities planned including: dissecting seeds, making seed bombs and bird feeders, and of course, planting in the garden!

  • Camp runs from July 11th through August 19th
  • The Camp runs Monday – Friday from 9:00am – 12:00pm at the Farm to School Garden (alongside the NES playing fields)
  • Open to students ages 6-10 years old
  • The fee per camper is $190/week
  • Click here to register through the Nantucket Community School

*Funding for the Farm to School Program is provided in part though generous grants by the Nantucket Golf Club and Beverly A. and David H. Barlow
